What is this all about?
Simple: we publish the Africa Insiders’ Newsletter, you can subscribe to it.
Why would I do that?
Because you are interested in what’s going on across Africa. And You don’t have the time or inclination to sort through hundreds of news items every day to find the really important stuff and those really good articles, reports and insights. Or sink hours of time into researching the necessary context to understand what all of it actually means.
We do this, every day, so you don’t have to. And we distill it down into two weekly emails:
The Insiders’ Newsletter, published on Tuesdays. It will keep you up to date with the stories you need and want to know about.
Election Watch, coming out every Friday, which covers all national elections and referendums on the continent in-depth.
You’ll also get some goodies, like curated Twitter lists and regularly updated spreadsheets of all African heads of state (yes, we are that nerdy).
And of course, some of the money you are giving us will fund free in-depth reporting over at AfricanArguments.org.
Wait, this costs money?
Yes, if you want to get the most out of it. We currently offer three types of subscription:
Basic: Free, but you get only one of the segments of the Insiders’ Newsletter each week.
Full: $10/month or $100/year (discounts available, see below). This gives you access to the full Insiders’ Newsletter, Election Watch and all our bonus content.
Patron: $15/month or $150/year. Like Full, but the additional money goes to AfricanArguments.org to fund original reporting and analysis.
We offer a discounted subscription of $2/month or $20/year for students, as well as one for interns and other people with limited income and a 20% discount for people working for NGOs and research institutions. Just click on the respective links to apply.
And of course we offer group discounts. If you want to subscribe for five or more people, get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
But why does it cost money?
Because we spend a lot of time researching and writing the newsletter. And we like money. It pays our bills.
I have another question. Can you help me out?
Sure. Check out these frequently asked questions or get in touch: email@example.com.
Can I forward the emails?
When it comes to the free posts, spread them as far and as wide as you like, on whatever platform you currently prefer. Occasionally forwarding subscribers-only emails is fine, but please ask your friends and colleagues to subscribe, if you do.
Can I pay with PayPal / bank transfer / X?
We prefer credit/debit card payments, because these can be automated. If you don’t have a credit card, we can arrange a payment via PayPal or bank transfer. Please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating the email address that should receive the Insiders’ Newsletter and if you want a normal ($100) or supporter’s ($150) subscription. We’ll activate your subscription as quickly as possible. Because this is a manual process, we can only sell yearly subscriptions this way.
I’m a member of the Royal African Society. Can I get a discount?
Sure! If you send us an email to email@example.com with your full name, we’ll send you a coupon code to reduce the price of a subscription by 30%.
