This is a newsletter for smart people who want to stay informed about politics on the African continent. We cover this week’s major news stories, but will also surface interesting long-term trends and new perspectives on old issues.
Obviously you will get lots of links to interesting writing from around the internet. But more importantly, we offer smart and concise commentary and analysis on everything we cover. And we put special emphasis on forecasting and constructiveness.
Political reporting too often remains stuck in the here and now. We risk looking ahead, identifying the important trends, dynamics and events that will shape a given situation in the future. Not every scenario we develop will become true, of course, but we’ll give you the information you need to notice from where the wind blows.
Good journalism and analysis should also have a point of view and our’s is defined by the search for solutions. Facts come first, but we will always point out opportunities for how a problem could be solved or a situation made incrementally better.
Can I forward the emails?
When it comes to the free posts, spread them as far and as wide as you like, on whatever platform you currently prefer. Occasionally forwarding subscribers-only emails is fine, but please ask your friends and colleagues to subscribe, if you do.
How much does it cost and what do I get?
There are two subscription options:
You can pay $10 monthly/$100 yearly for the standard subscription. This will get you at least 1 newsletter per week.
Alternatively, you can pay $15 monthly/$150 yearly for the exact same benefit. “Why”, you might ask, “should I do that?” Simple: the additional revenue will go directly to support African Arguments (the website) and help it broaden its excellent in-depth coverage of African politics.
I can’t afford the subscription because of X. Can I get a discount?
Send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know why you can’t afford the price and what you’d be willing to pay and we’ll work something out.
Can I pay with PayPal / bank transfer / X?
We prefer credit/debit card payments, because these can be automated. If you don’t have a credit card, we can arrange a payment via PayPal. please send us an email to email@example.com indicating the email address that should receive the Insiders’ Newsletter and if you want a normal ($100) or supporter’s ($150) subscription. We’ll activate your subscription as quickly as possible. Because this is a manual process, we can only sell yearly subscriptions this way.
We can’t currently accept bank transfers or other payment methods. Please set up a PayPal account and route your money through that, if you don’t have a credit or debit card that our payment provider accepts.
I’m a member of the Royal African Society. Can I get a discount?
Sure! If you send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your full name, we’ll send you a coupon code to reduce the price of a subscription by 30%.
